If this is the next 30 years of your life, is it enough? After answering “NO,” I quit my successful job at the height of my career to start a nonprofit because a little girl asked me a profound question that stopped me dead in my tracks.

At the age of 38, I jumped off the corporate ladder to start a nonprofit called Pajama Program to bring books and pajamas to children in group homes who desperately deserved a loving bedtime routine.

I knew nothing about founding a nonprofit but I tapped into the power of the Human Connection and found ways to work with others to share my story and spread the message of my mission. With empathy, patience, commitment, networking and determination, Pajama Program has donated over 7 million books and pajamas to children in group homes.

We’ve all heard people talk about how the power of one person can change things. I have found that while it does take one idea and maybe one person to start something big, it takes a whole lot more people to start a movement and make a difference in thousands of lives.
