ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mitzi Krockover, M.D. is a Partner at SSB Solutions, a health care management consulting, development and investment firm. She is also a Managing Director of Golden Seeds, an angel investment organization dedicated to funding early-stage women-led companies; she serves as co-chair of the Golden Seeds Health Care Sector Group and is a founding member and co-leader of the Arizona Chapter of Golden Seeds. Most recently she founded Woman Centered LLC, and launched the Beyond the Paper Gown podcast, both of which aim to inform, inspire and engage women so that they can achieve optimal health.

Dr. Krockover has been a leader in the area of women’s health and women’s issues. She was the founding Medical Director of the Iris Cantor-UCLA Women’s Health Center, designated a Center of Excellence by Department of Health and Human Services. She then served as Vice President of Women’s Health for Humana Inc. where she was the company’s chief healthcare strategist and spokesperson for women’s health.  She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Women’s Health Initiative of Springboard, an organization that provides investment in women-led companies in the life sciences and technology and an Ambassador for HIT Lab’s Women’s Health Initiative. 

Dr. Krockover has served on both private corporate and non-profit boards. Currently, she is President of the Institute for Mental Health Research.  Additionally, she is a member of the National Council of the Institute for Public Health at Washington University, the Washington University Phoenix Cabinet, and the New American Council for Arts and Design at Arizona State University.

A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis with an AB in Arts and Sciences, Dr. Krockover received her medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University.

Victoria Pynchon is the Co-founder of She Negotiates, a consulting firm and training workshop for women that nests today’s most effective negotiation strategies in the gender culture in which women do business. Although Pynchon’s focus is now on closing the wage and income gap for women, she has been training lawyers and business people of both genders in mutual benefit negotiation strategies since 2005. The work of She Negotiates has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered, the New York Times, CNN, the Wall Street Journal, and dozens of smaller news outlets. As a lawyer, mediator and author, Pynchon turns 25 years of commercial litigation into the collaborative possibilities of interest-based negotiation. Since earning her legal masters degree in dispute resolution, she has published two books, The Grownups’ ABCs of Conflict Resolution and Success as a Mediator for Dummies. What's Your Story? Examining Narratives & Shadows

Stories are powerful, but often under-examined aspects of how we interact with others in our workplaces. The stories influence how we recognize problems, define goals, and assign accountability. Stories also shape how we imagine our roles and responsibilities to others.

Sharing stories can be tricky, because story sharing involves navigating differences in power, assumptions and knowledge.

And some stories may not be ready to be shared.

In this talk, I discuss the power dynamics of story sharing, and how to discern whether we are acting in good faith both as listeners and tellers.

About the Speaker

Catherine R. Squires has been leading workshops in and outside of academia for over a decade, helping people explore new and effective ways of using stories to connect with each other and examine shared goals.

Squires is a professor at the University of Minnesota and a certified yoga instructor (RYT-200 YA). She combines narrative studies with her yoga training to create workshops and presentations that engage body and mind. She lives in Minnesota and is always on the lookout for interesting birds.
