Give the Gift of Mentorship
I never had a formal mentor. But I was incredibly fortunate that some people saw in me capabilities I didn’t see in myself. They pushed me to take challenging roles and tasks. Mildred Chaffin, my gruff, tough first boss was such a mentor, plucking me out of the classroom to develop one of Head Start’s first parent-child interaction programs. She later took the time, unasked, when she knew she was dying of breast cancer, to write a glowing recommendation she knew I’d need in the future.
I will always be grateful to her.
I try to pay Mildred’s example of mentoring forward to younger women.
That’s why on December 3, Giving Tuesday, we ask you to help us raise the $15,000 we need to kickstart the Take The Lead Connects Mentoring Program.
