The Power To Support Women to Transform their Lives
By Carmen Correa
In a region where odds are overwhelmingly stacked against women, Pro Mujer helps them overcome any doubts they may have about their ability to transform their lives. In 2022, we provided healthcare services and skilling opportunities to more than 200,000 women.
Yet as importantly, we are bringing them into the financial system, helping them gain access to the funding they need to prosper. That is possibly the most powerful tool to fight poverty.
And that’s exactly what we are doing.
We give women the necessary tools to help them become agents of change within their communities. We are committed to bringing out their full potential and helping them turn their life around.
Thus, we are raising the quality of life in the 23 countries that we reach with our services, by thousands of households at a time, for in every country, women are the backbone of the family and of society.
The biggest satisfaction in my job is visiting the women that we support across Latin America, who are building a better life for themselves and their children. In their stories of hard work, tears, and smiles, inevitably perseverance has the last word.
In Guatemala, Silvana, 47, is just one example. She had given up hope when she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. With Pro Mujer’s assistance, she set up an online shop of handicrafts and personalized gifts. In Nicaragua, Ramona Juana Quezada, 67, has benefited from Pro Mujer for 25 years. She has a convenience store, which she continued operating while diagnosed with breast cancer.
I have 199,998 other stories like this, a rich microcosm of how beautiful life can be when women take charge of it. Stay tuned.
