The Power of Women Supporting Women

When I was asked to share how I've empowered women in my industry, my first reaction was to laugh. I’ve spent the last 16 years balancing a demanding career with raising children, leaving little time for leadership activities. However, upon reflection, I realized leadership isn’t about grand gestures but rather the everyday moments that shape us. It’s about quiet resilience, small connections, and the support we give each other, often without even realizing its impact.

I’ve worked in gemology for 25 years, often as the only woman in the room. However, I’ve been fortunate to find a network of women who have supported and uplifted me. One such woman is my mentor, a world-renowned expert in her 60s. We’ve worked together for 18 years, growing from a small team of 10 to a large organization. Her success isn’t defined by her accolades but by the consistent encouragement and wisdom she’s offered me throughout the years.

On the other hand, I’m inspired by a younger colleague in her 20s, just starting her journey in gemology. Her passion and enthusiasm remind me of why I fell in love with the field—precision, care, and the impact we have on consumers making significant purchases.

Balancing career and motherhood has been incredibly challenging, but the women around me have kept me grounded. Their support, passion, and strength make the work so much more rewarding. As women, we often hear we can’t have it all, but I’ve learned it’s about finding balance, building support networks, and staying true to your values. I’m deeply grateful for the women who have walked this path with me, and I encourage young women to seek mentorship, build networks, and pursue their dreams relentlessly.
