The Power to Harness Technology for Good
By Lian Pham
I created Metahug, a global philanthropic organization, because I
wanted to combine my passion for technology and Web3, with my belief in the importance of paying good forward.
In pursuit of this goal, Metahug partnered with Roblox and PraSaga to build on our efforts to deliver positive global change by gamifying education for children with limited resources. Notably, teaching them Web3 topics including blockchain, DAO, and ownification within the Roblox platform.
As a working single mom, I know it’s impossible to fight screen time completely. By combining Roblox and Web3, I turned screen time into a balance of entertainment and learning. Kids growing up in today’s culture quickly learn how to tap and swipe on a tablet to stream shows and games.
This can be channeled into something positive through MetaHug; the education of millions of children. It’s undeniable Web3 will be an integral part of Gen Z and Gen Alpha’s lives making it critical all children are properly educated on its uses.
This philanthropic vision, and ‘pay it forward’ mentality, was inspired by my background. My parents fled Vietnam to the U.S. in 1975, sponsored by Jewish immigrants, who had themselves been sponsored decades prior, escaping to the U.S. to start a new life. This ‘pay it forward’ of sponsorships changed the trajectory of my life and influenced how I am as a person.
At 6, I joined programs to feed children around the world and moved on to the SOS Village adoption program, where I was the youngest ambassador. Now, my mission is to encourage and enable young people globally to become creators and collaborators, and harness technology for future success. My goal is to make sure all children around the world can use technology productively, to create an environment in which they can thrive.
