The Power to Be My Authentic Self As CEO and Founder
By Mahja Sulemanjee Bortocek
Weed has an unending list of aliases, such as cannabis, marijuana, pot, kush, trees, and sticky icky, just to name a few. Whatever you choose to call it, this amazing plant has evolved alongside humans, providing us with medicine, leisure, and economy. We’ve witnessed a huge shift in the way we approach this unique industry, however, there is still a lot of work to be done to destigmatize cannabis.
I'm the CEO and Founder of High Haven Cannabis, a minority-owned, woman-led cannabis multi-state company. At High Haven, we admire the cannabis plant and want to bring universal acceptance of its consumption and use. Normalizing cannabis has always been my guiding light. I’ve had a long-standing relationship with cannabis, both personally and professionally, and watching it be disrespected and shackled for decades has been a painful experience for many of us who understand the benefits and grace this plant brings to our lives.
This industry allows me to be my authentic self. Yes, I am a business professional, but I no longer must hide the fact that not only do I love consuming cannabis, but it also allows me to be creative, focused, and do my job at the highest level possible.
We want to change that way of thinking at High Haven. We’re here to create a mecca and haven for shoppers, consumers, and employees alike. High Haven has a unique canna-culture that has been methodically curated - and our people are the stars of the show. Each person in the company is vetted for passion for the plant and provided with extensive training to combine their passion with company values and culture. Investing in the professional development of our people is just one way we can deliver on our promise of the triple bottom line: people, planet, and profits.
