The Power Of My Community
By Bora Laci
I am a proud daughter of two immigrant parents. It has and will always be my place to stand up for myself, to have a voice, and stand up for others.
As a child, I never realized how much
my identity mattered, I did not see how much being an immigrant influenced my
life. When people look at me, they cannot tell that I am an immigrant and do
not know the sacrifices that my parents had to go through.
We live in a world where you must look a certain way to be identified as an immigrant and that is not true. We all have our own story, and we should all be able to share it.
During my MBA, I realized how much my voice matters, how I had to stand up for
others, and myself. As a young woman, who is proud of her culture and background, I make sure others pronounce my last name correctly, I want every child of immigrant parents to know that they are not alone and they do not have to fit in society because of their surroundings.
Fast forward a year after my MBA and I am involved in my community and mentoring kids especially young girls on how to be confident, to erase the imposter syndrome, and to be kind to themselves. Because our stories are so important my brother and I have created a podcast called Venture Worlds where we will interview diverse humans who want to share their experiences with the world.
Remember that life is a masterpiece and it needs to be seen.
