You Have the Power to Double Your Impact to Help Women Today
Issue 151 — November 29, 2020
Do you sometimes feel powerless in these challenging days?
Let me assure you of this: you have the power to help women recover from the pandemic’s effects on their lives and livelihoods when you make a contribution to Take The Lead.
And — great news — your contribution will be matched by our amazing board members, led by chair Dr. Nancy O’Reilly.
That’s super important because if women aren’t placed at the center of our post-COVID recovery, we will lose 10 years of progress toward equality in pay, position, and power.

Women are suffering economically, personally, professionally, mentally, financially and more because of COVID and the ongoing crisis of bias and racial injustice.
Four times as many women as men have dropped out of the labor force.
The impact of the pandemic on women — and accompanying child care and school crises — are severe for all women. Black, Latinx, and Indigenous women are more likely than white women to have lost jobs, be on the front lines as essential workers, and experience COVID infections. In 40% of families, women are the primary breadwinner.
As if the health and economic ravages of the pandemic weren’t bad enough, the pressures of the economic downturn have brought a new wave of domestic violence. When women can’t leave their home because they have nowhere safe to go, or if they can’t support themselves and their children, they are more likely to experience gender based violence.
Noooooo. I know you agree with me that we can’t let women lose a decade of progress.
And you have the power to make sure of that.
You have the power to help women who have lost their jobs to participate in courses, workshops, webinars and coaching programs to restart or if necessary to re-envision their careers. You can make it possible for women to continue to take advantage of Take The Lead’s free content every week. And you will enable us to provide our proven training and coaching so women can reenter or revise career plans.
Here is the bad news: Take The Lead has literally used every penny we had since the pandemic began to deliver on our mission’s promise in spite of lost revenue. That’s why your help is urgently needed right now.

When I look back at 2020, I’m proud to say we stepped up big time to:
Pirouette like a prima ballerina to deliver a cohort of 50 Women Can Change the World in Journalism virtually.
Amp up like an opera diva to provide free inspiring role model webinars, Power TO You podcasts and blogs with leadership tools and tips to navigate the pandemic successfully, trainings to help women capture the opportunity in chaos, commissioned a review of our entire curriculum with a racial justice lens, and the Power to Change Stories project that amplifies women’s voices just when they need it most.
Power serve like Serena Williams to hold the inaugural PowerUp Conference.
Last week, I received this note from Denise Penizzotto, who participated in a free workshop I conducted: “I want to thank you for your wonderful presentation. I have referred to the workbook and overview more than a few times since then. The section on ‘My Points of Power’ and the conversations that came out of this topic offered me a new way of looking at what I have to offer.”
We’re all having to look at things in a new way during this difficult time.
Remember — right now for Giving Tuesday, your gift will be matched to double its impact. Our board of directors has pledged to match all donations up to $25,000 so we can reach the $50,000 goal needed to continue our work with the many deserving women who need it.
Your gifts this Giving Tuesday have the power to enable women whose lives and careers have been disrupted by COVID to get back on track. But we need your help to stay on our track.
With so much appreciation for you and your support,
Gloria Feldt
