Spotlight On The Power Up Conference: Meet Leaders and Invest in Your Success
“Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. it will not only improve your life, but it will also improve the lives of all those around you." - Robin Sharma
Kay Sperduti is a health care marketing professional, the owner of Sperduti Communications and a graduate of our 50 Women Can Change the World leadership program. We talked with her about what she learned in the program and how the experience is helping her to change the world around her.
For Kay, improving the lives of those around her means being in a position to pay people for their hard work.
"My decisions as a small business owner are always driven by what’s right for my clients and what’s right for my team," she said. " It’s a sacred trust to make a difference in those lives and I feel like in a small way, I’ve helped to change my team’s world for the better."
Kay’s story rings true around the globe. Investing in women’s leadership creates ripple effects that produce a multitude of benefits for the individual woman, her organization and the community.
Growing evidence shows that corporations led by women are more focused on sustainability and that organizations with the most gender parity in leadership are more financially successful and more socially responsible. Fully closing the gender gap in workplaces would add up to 28% trillion in annual GDP by 2025.
It is clear that investing in women can truly change the world and that is why Take The Lead’s bold mission is nothing less than leadership gender parity by 2025.

Start your leadership journey
We asked Kay what words of wisdom would she give to a woman who is just starting her leadership journey. She offered four powerful pieces of advice.
· As Sheryl Sandberg so clearly stated – sit at the table. Don’t let your age, years of experience or lack of confidence move you to the sidelines.
· Be good to the people around you. Whether they work for you, with you, or lead you, they all matter.
· It’s understandable to be nervous at performance reviews or salary negotiations so practice asking for what you need in terms of how it will benefit the organization.
Mistakes are fine. If you don’t make them, you don’t learn and you’re not thinking outside the box. Learn to acknowledge them yourself rather than letting them haunt you. This is part of telling your own story – another key Power Tool.
As a community of smart, driven women, we value learning from one another. We appreciate Kay’s thoughtful responses and we ask what words of wisdom would you add to this list? Tap into our brand new Facebook community for all sectors and share your thoughts here.
We can't wait to meet you at the conference next month where you'll get to meet Kay and so many other fierce leaders like her who are so ready to power up with you!
